In The Skies… a long way from home… twice… Kanazawa, Osaka and Tokyo Japan

1990 was a special year with travel to Miami Florida, New Orleans and Lafayette Louisiana. Sitting in with Raul Malo and The Mavericks before they moved to Nashville TN and turned into superstars.

Meeting and playing a duo in the kitchen of DL Menard, the man who wrote and sang the classic cajun Back Door. Besides being a french cajun musician he had his own chair making factory. Wooden Chairs.

Hawaii found my first duo gig with Jhan Dudley on electric guitar. I went for a vacation, and we performed a happy hour and ended up staying and playing for about a month. Then Jhan said he had to go back to reality and his job as a booking agent in Vancouver. I went to live in Hawaii for a year but lasted a month. Got homesick and came back home to Vancouver. I did a couple gigs with Jhan but he got busy and got me some gigs playing a duet with Vancouvers amazing guitarist Lindsay Mitchell. We recorded a demo of our duo setlist at Willie MacCalder’s studio. We mostly played neighborhood pubs. Lindsay taught me how to play a steady walking blues bass line on the piano to accompany his solos.
