Accordion Round-Up
Rounding up Accordions and Accordionists of all types. Accordion Brothers and Sisters, NAA, ATG, Accordion Orchestra

After the Accordion Round-Up, Debra Peters & the Love Saints band took the stage with their usual mix of Cajun-y, country blues, zydeco rhythms, with a hint of Tex-Mex polkas and waltzes. Classic country and western swing, original “cry in your beer songs.” A fun time was had by all at the Spoke cafe. Guests dined on Texas BBQ, Chicken Fried Steak and listened to live music then go back into James & Annetta White‘s world famous Broken Spoke Dancehall to two step the night away.

The Accordion Round-Up on Tuesdays at the Broken Spoke was a special night where accordion players from Austin, all over Texas, all over USA and all over the world came to jam at the Accordion Round-Up. We shared an hour of going around the table to contribute a tune. These evenings were full of laughter, great music, and pure squeezebox joy.

Comments from Kirk Walker
When I see a shout out to an accordion player on my feed, especially regarding a music genre I do not play or an instrument with which I have no experience, it is almost always from Debra Peters. She is, likely, the most active person in the United States, and perhaps the western world, that is drawing connections between, and bridging interest with, all of the facets of accordion music and musicians. Her talent with the instrument and mastery of many genres of accordion music, affords her the authority to make these connections, but her unwavering dedication to the instrument is a benefit to us all. Debra Peters, I am grateful to have been able to play with you since I first took up the simple instrument that I have attempted to master (I recall the early days of the Central Texas Accordion group that met monthly at the Broken Spoke dance-hall in Austin, Tx, before the weekly gig for Debra Peters & The Love Saints) and, then, to graduate to the point of jamming with you in the wild. Cheers my friend. Keep on squeezing. This photo is from a Cajun Music jam at St. Roch’s bar in East Austin in 2017. Not that long ago in relation to our years, eh?Thanks to Gary Mortensen for the photo, that was a fine shoot that captured her spirit.
